Interestingly, sometimes pre-forming a complex of the palladium catalyst with tricyclohexylphosphine can be more effective for the coupling reaction than just adding the two compounds directly into the reaction mixture. This might be because the pre-made catalyst complex can prevent multiple phosphine ligands from coordinating with the palladium.
