3-(Carboxymethyl)-1,2, acid 1,4:2,3-dianhydride (TCA-AH for short) is an alicyclic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride compound. Its molecular structure contains two anhydride rings and a bridging carboxymethyl group, forming a unique tricyclic skeleton (4,10-dioxacyclo [6.3.1.0,] dodecane -3,5,9,11-tetraketone structure).
In terms of physical properties: The compound has a melting point of 201°C and is white to off-white powder or crystal. It has a predicted density of about 1.567g/cm³, a high boiling point of 517.5°C (predicted value) and a flash point of 238.6°C, indicating good thermal stability. The refractive index is 1.556, the vapor pressure is very low (about 0.0±1.3 mmHg at 25°C), and it is almost non-volatile.
Chemical properties: As an acid anhydride compound, TCA-AH is highly sensitive to moisture and will undergo a hydrolysis reaction to generate the corresponding carboxylic acid. The dianhydride structure of its molecule enables its polycondensation reaction with diamine compounds, which is the key monomer for the synthesis of high-performance polyimide (PI) resins. The compound has very low solubility in water (4.0 × 10 · · g/L) and is a hydrophobic solid.

TCA-AH is an important high-performance polymer monomer, the main application areas include:
polyimide (PI) Resin Synthesis: As a tetracarboxylic dianhydride monomer, a polyimide is prepared by polycondensation with an aromatic or aliphatic diamine. Polyimides prepared therefrom have excellent thermal stability, mechanical strength and chemical resistance, and are widely used in aerospace, electrical and electronic, and automotive industries.
Electronic display materials: used in the manufacture of liquid crystal display (LCD) components, flexible circuit board (FPC) substrates and semiconductor packaging materials to meet the requirements of dimensional stability in high temperature processing environments.
Advanced coatings and adhesives: Using its characteristics of forming stable anhydride crosslinking points, special coatings and structural adhesives with high temperature resistance and high mechanical properties are prepared, which are suitable for aerospace composite bonding and electronic device packaging.
Optical film and resin film: used to produce high transparency, low birefringence optical grade polyimide film, used in flexible display, optical lens and optical waveguide materials.
