Benzoyltrifluoroacetone (BTA) is an important β-diketone fluorine-containing organic compound, which can be regarded as a derivative of acetylacetone. The hydrogen atom on the methyl group is replaced by a strongly electron-withdrawing trifluoromethyl group (CFL3). This compound exists in an enol-keto tautomeric equilibrium in solution and exists predominantly in the enol form. Due to the strong electron withdrawing effect of trifluoromethyl, the acidity (pKa ≈ 6.35,25°C) of BTA is significantly stronger than that of ordinary β-diketones, which makes it exhibit excellent chelating ability in metal ion coordination and extraction. The introduction of aromatic ring increases the molecular conjugation system, reduces the energy level, and expands its application potential in the field of photophysics.
This product has a melting point of 38-40°C, a boiling point of 224°C, and a low melting point solid state at room temperature. Soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform and other organic solvents, 95% ethanol solubility ≥ 25 mg/mL; slightly soluble in water (0.24g/L,25°C). It has good thermal and chemical stability, but may react in the presence of strong oxidants.

metal ion extraction and separation: As an efficient chelating extractant, it is widely used in solvent extraction, separation and purification of hafnium, zirconium and other rare metals, lanthanides and actinides.
Lithium resource extraction: In the ionic liquid (ILs) system, BTA can efficiently extract lithium ions from alkaline solutions (such as salt lake brine) without adding synergistic extractants (such as TOPO), with high selectivity and high reverse extraction rate, is an important direction of green lithium extraction technology.
Organic synthesis intermediates: an important building block for the synthesis of fluorine-containing medicines, pesticides and fine chemicals, especially in the preparation of fluorine-containing pyridine ketones herbicides and fluorine-containing quinoline compounds.
Luminescence and optical materials: As ligands of rare earth complexes (such as europium and terbium complexes), it is used to prepare high-performance fluorescent probes, OLED light-emitting layer materials and optical sensors.
